Islander is the production identity of director and cinematographer Oliver Hegarty.
Born and raised on the north coast of County Antrim, Northern Ireland, he now lives in Belfast and travels worldwide for work.
As an ex-professional athlete for Red Bull, he’s used to challenging environments with experience ranging from heavy coastal waters to freezing snow-covered alpine terrain. His specialist skills have been utilised in various productions around the world.
His recent work includes his role as director of photography in a documentary on James Joyce’s ‘100 Years of Ulysses‘ which was directed by Ruán Magan and aired on RTÉ in early 2022.
Licensed and insured to carry out aerial drone operations by the IAA, EASA and CAA.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Liverpool.
